Diphtheria is a respiratory infection caused by cornyebacterium diphtheriae. Diphtheria spreads from person to person through respiratory droplets due to coughing and sneezing of an infected individual. Complications of diphtheria include blocking of air way, myocarditis, polyneuropathy, respiratory failure, pneumonia and paralysis.
Tetanus is an infection caused by clostridium tetani. When the bacteria enter and invade the body, they produce a poison (toxin) that causes painful muscle contractions. Most common sign of tetanus infection is lockjaw. Other accompanying symptoms may be painful muscle stiffness all over the body, fever, sweating, headache, changes in blood pressure and heart rate. Pertussis also known as whooping cough is caused by Bordetella pertussis. It is a highly contagious disease. The typical symptoms of pertussis include sudden onset of coughing with inspiratory sound or vomiting. Pertussis has the potential to affect people of all ages. The things of major concern are secondary infection, encephalopathy, seizures and death that result from serious complications of this disease.
